The Plot

The movie follows the story of Heer (Sridevi), a beautiful and wealthy girl who lives in Jhang, Pakistan. She meets Ranjha (Anil Kapoor), a poor but handsome boy who works as a shepherd. They fall in love at first sight and become childhood sweethearts. However, their families are enemies and do not approve of their relationship. Heer's father arranges her marriage with Saida Khera (Anupam Kher), a rich and powerful man from another village. Ranjha is heartbroken and leaves his home to wander around the country. He eventually reaches Heer's village, where he disguises himself as a musician named Deedho and goes to work for Heer's father.

Heer recognizes him and they rekindle their love. They plan to elope, but their secret is exposed by Heer's jealous uncle Kaido (Shammi Kapoor), who tries to kill Ranjha. Ranjha escapes with the help of Heer's brother Chuchak (Gulshan Grover), who supports their love. They reach a shrine of a saint named Waris Shah (Pran), who agrees to marry them. However, Saida Khera arrives with his men and attacks them. In the ensuing fight, Ranjha is fatally wounded by a poisoned arrow. He dies in Heer's arms, taking her name as his last breath. Heer also dies of grief, joining her lover in death.
